Boys
We have teams at Minor (1st Years), Junior (2nd Years) and U16 level and participate in the South West ‘B’ Regional Competitions as well as in local Limerick leagues. Our U16 team have been very successful, reaching the All Ireland Minor Final and followed this up by reaching the All Ireland Junior Playoffs a year later. In 2019/2020 they were beaten at the regional semifinals by Castletroy College who went on to claim the All Ireland in convincing fashion.
In the 2019/2020 season, our 1st and 2nd year teams were training and performing to a high level with both teams qualifying to the regional semifinals before games were cancelled across the country.
With close to 40 students participating across all teams and incoming 1st years joining in, the sport is going from strength to strength in the school.
Girls
In similar fashion to the boys, girls basketball is growing with excitement building over the numbers participating and ability levels improving quickly. With two 1st year teams in 2019/2020, nearly 30 girls honed their skills each week and have made excellent progress. These future stars will be looking forward to pushing for honours in the coming years.
Our 2nd year girls participated in the U16 Regionals early in 2019/2020 and found it difficult playing up against girls in Transition Year and 3rd year in other schools. This experience helped them in their own 2nd year league where they had qualified to the Regional semifinals before the cancellation of games. They will hope to take this form into the U16 competition in 2020/2021.
