2025 Update:
Our music club has been very busy over the past few months. Below are a few updates:
All music students went to Cork City Hall in November to see a live orchestra. There were all different types of classical musicians and also singers involved. It was very interactive with the crowd and the students really enjoyed their day out.
The music students helped out and performed at the open night in October for incoming 1st years. Students from various year groups performed in groups or individually to show their musical capabilities and to entertain the incoming 1st years and their parents. It was a really successful event and the students received multiple compliments on their talents.
In collaboration with the business club, the MCC choir performed multiple Christmas Carols for the students of the school in the GPA area. The students bought treats while they listened to the choirs live performance. It was a really enjoyable morning for all students and staff in the school.
Finally, the choir will be going on a trip to see Legally Blonde the Musical in Mary I in April and are looking forward to this.
Choir
Our students enjoy a wealth of extra curricular music activities throughout the year. Students get to utilise their performance skills and talents at choir which is held every week. Instrumental students are given the opportunity to perform with the choir as part of the school band ensemble.
Traditional Music Ensemble
Students that specialize in traditional music are given the opportunity to join traditional music ensemble who perform for the annual Seachtain na Gaeilge lunchtime concert and other performances throughout the year.
Concert Hall Trips
Frequent trips are organised to music performances, such as the Cork Pops Orchestra, at University Concert Hall Limerick.
Public Performances
All students have the opportunity to perform for the wider school community at the MCC Open Night, Arts and Culture Night, Christmas Market as well as other events held throughout the year. This year the Open Night featured performances from the school choir, school band as well as solo performances from students who specialise in classical, jazz, pop, traditional and folk music.
Music Generation
Students also enjoy the opportunity to work with Music Generation and its community based musicians. The schools’ access programme caters for fun filled creative music making incorporating a wide range of music activities such as songwriting and music technology.
