Spikeball is an adapted 4 v 4 volleyball game. This was the first year of spikeball in Mungret Community College with the school entering 2 teams in 1st year girls and 1 into the 1st year boys competition. We purchased a spikeball net and base and had courts lined in the yard for training. We had great numbers at training each week.
1st Year Girls:
We entered 2 girls teams into the competition. The first round of games were played in a blitz format in November in Galway. Both teams qualified from this round to the regional finals. The regional finals took place in Galway again with both teams playing really well on the day and were unlucky not to progress. Well done to all the girls and hopefully see ye all back next year.
1st year Boys:
We entered 1 boys team into the competition. The boys played in round one and won 4 out of 5 matches qualifying them for the regional finals. Regional finals were held in Mary I where the boys won out the game and qualified for the All Ireland Finals in NUIG. On the day they qualified in second place in round one. This qualified our team for the Quarter Final, which they won in exciting fashion by 1 point. Unfortunately they went down narrowly, to the eventual easy winners of the final, in the Semi Final. These boys have represented themselves, their families and our school so well all year.
We welcome all new players next year and encourage all 1st years so give it a go .
