Assessment is a key part of any worthwhile learning programme. The emphasis is on varied and on-going assessment, with students themselves becoming involved and recognising their own learning strengths and weaknesses. Project work, e-portfolio work and presentations of students’ work are all encouraged. Each individual school makes its own arrangements for reporting to parents and for the certifications of students who complete a TY programme.
In Mungret Community College there will be assessments at the end of each module studied. A report will be sent home at the end of each module. The report will be both formative (helps students to better understand their strengths and weaknesses and to identify target areas that need work through the use of teacher feedback, and summative ( final grade awarded based on the student’s work/ project/ engagement/ practical work over the 6 week learning block.)

Transition Year Eportfolio:
Since your son/daughter has started school in Mungret Community College, we have always placed importance on e-learning and using this resource as an additional learning tool in the classroom. The last 17 months have proved our ever growing dependence on technology to connect, learn and support our students.
In Transition Year the students will create and update their eportfolios throughout the year, reflecting and writing about their experiential learning. It is in effect an electronic diary of their year, and it is integral that it is up-to-date.
Our school improvement plan continues to focus our students on strengthening their learning through reflection. One of the main objectives of 4th year is that the students take responsibility for their learning and show initiative throughout the curriculum. The eportfolio is an important part of this reflective learning practise, and will be part of the end of year assessment interview, where the students will be interviewed specifically on their eportfolio entries and their TY experience.
