Bank of Ireland runs this initiative for TY students to learn more about banking and the processes that are involved. We were made aware of the School Bank team opportunity from a presentation made by Peter Cooney, an employee for BOI. There are 5 places on the school bank team: Bank Manager, Audit and operations specialist, Advertising and more. We applied for which position we wanted then we had to have an interview. Similar to a job interview, we were asked why we want the job, why we would be suited to the job and what makes us stand out from others. Once the team was set up we had regular bank meetings in the boardroom with the help of Ms Downey. Advertising was very important to us to get the word out there that we were launching. We set up posters around the school, we spoke to students in class during tutor time and we had our own Twitter account. Each meeting we set targets for how many accounts we wanted to open, we made posters for advertising, when we were going to launch, where we were going to launch etc. Our launch day was very successful. We opened in room 15 during lunch break. We had 30 sign ups on the launch day which we were delighted with. Our future plan is to open often to allow students who are interested to open a bank account with us. We would recommend to future TYs to sign up for the school bank as it is a brilliant opportunity if you are interested in business and banking.
