Transition Year Workshops

Develop Me:

Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience, and is more specifically defined as “learning through reflection on doing”. Our students really enjoyed this workshop last year and promoted teamwork and problem solving through engaging and interactive activities. It is an all-day workshop and encourages the students to think creatively and together to solve a series of problems in their tasks. Our students really enjoyed this last year, and we look forward to working with Ger and his team in the next academic year.

CSI experience:

This workshop is delivered by highly qualified facilitators with a background in forensics. Kieran O’ Brien and Jim Gallagher deliver a hands-on interactive day workshop with the students fully engaging in the ‘Crime Scene Investigation Experience.’ Throughout the day, participants will take fingerprints and will also examine scenes for finger-marks. Our students really enjoyed this last year, and we look forward to working with Kieran and his team in the next academic year.

Aware TY Lifeskills Workshop:

This course took place on-line this year with 14 students taking part during lockdown. The programme specifically teaches students the ability to understand the relationship between thoughts, feelings and actions; to understand the impact of external events; to look at challenges differently; to develop inner confidence, and to understand how they can improve their own well-being. The educational programme is designed to help young people learn new ways to deal with concerns and challenges in life. The programme contains six, 75-minute modules and runs over a six-week period. This, in turn, allows students the maximum time to reflect on the key learning point from each module and time to experiment with the ‘new ways of thinking’ presented. The weekly schedule also allows time for students to raise any questions they might have for a programme instructor.

We have all learned the value of minding and nurturing our mental health over the last 17 months, and this course provides a safe and professional discourse for our students.
